when i'm at school they teach me the normal BP is 130/90.
Now the researches rediscovered that the BP should be at 120/80.
I think that this is because everyone achieves the predetermined rate i.e 130/90, and will stop the in taking of medicine. This will beat the pharmacy industry, so they make people panic abt the new rate and force to continue to take the pill.
As you attain the 130/90 rate, dont be afraid and enjoy your life.
For a long time, normal blood pressure was defined as 120/80 (systolic / diastolic). Recently, the American Heart Association changed the definition of normal blood pressure to “Less than 120 / Less than 80.”
This redefinition was enacted because of ongoing research examining the long term health effects of different blood pressures. Along with redefining the normal value, the new American Heart Association guidelines changed the cutoff values for the different stages of high blood pressure. Again, these changes were also based on new research which more clearly shows the increasing risk of heart attack and other illness as the blood pressure rises.
ya go according to the doc.....

Based on epidemiology knowledge, drug therapy and non-drug therapy also is part of treatment. Non drug therapy aims reduce all "risk " factors
associated with the illness. It includes exercise, maintaining ideal body weight, avoiding stress, avoiding cholesterol ( LDL, VLDL) high fiber diet,
stop smoking etc. Once HBP is diagnosed, drug & non-drug therapy
should continue life long with regular monitoring to avoid the serious
complications of the illness. Self medication is not advised. You need
to follow the instructions of doctor.

Sir, Please remember one thing. Once you start taking tablets for BP, you should continue to take it for lifetime.
There is no harm in taking it. Side effects are minimal and not dangerous.
What is dangerous is stopping the medicines. Even if your BP comes to normal, doctors will continue to prescrible a very minimum dosage, so that there is no surge. Surge means the BP shoots up to very high level (in rare cases) which may cause brain haemorrage.
130/90 is normal. As age advances (after 40)doctors say 10 points increase for every 10 years is ok, like 140/90, 150/90 and so on.
But the reading 90 should never go up. If it comes down to 80, all the more better

After listening to Doctors opinions.
the 1st thing I would like to suggest is that you must think of your life style like avoid hurry worry and curry, cut down your salt intake, walk every morning and then get your bp checked and if its still high continue with medications as prescribed by your doctor.
The normal B.P. should be systolic in a range of 110 to 130 and diastolic between 70 to 80mm of Hg.

Yes ofcourse u need to continue the medication, but your doctor will gradually reduce the dosage from 40mg twice in a day to may be once ina day depending on your age n symptoms. Normal BP is considered as 110/70 + or - 10 mg,but normal value varies in accordance with the age too.. suppose a person is 60yrs with BP 140/90 then it can be taken as normal!! so u dont worry n reduce the intake of salt.

For each heartbeat, blood pressure varies between systolic and diastolic pressures. Systolic pressure is peak pressure in the arteries, which occurs near the beginning of the cardiac cycle when the ventricles are contracting. Diastolic pressure is minimum pressure in the arteries, which occurs near the end of the cardiac cycle when the ventricles are filled with blood. An example of normal measured values for a resting, healthy adult human is 120 mmHg systolic and 80 mmHg diastolic. Pulse pressure is the difference between systolic and diastolic pressures represented like 120/80
Systolic and diastolic arterial blood pressures are not static but undergo natural variations from one heartbeat to another and throughout the day (in a circadian rhythm). They also change in response to stress, nutritional factors, drugs, disease, exercise, and momentarily from standing up. Sometimes the variations are large. Hypertension refers to arterial pressure being abnormally high, as opposed to hypotension, when it is abnormally low. Along with body temperature, blood pressure measurements are the most commonly measured physiological parameters.
Classification of blood pressure for adults
Category systolic, mmHg ,diastolic, mmHg
Hypotension < 90 , or < 60
Normal 90 – 119 ,and 60 – 79
Prehypertension 120 – 139 ,or 80 – 89
Stage 1 Hypertension 140 – 159 ,or 90 – 99
Stage 2 Hypertension ≥ 160 ,or ≥ 100.
If ur blood pressure varies coz of hypertension or any other reason, u have to take the medicines. I'll suggest u to go for medical checkup. and find out the root cause of this. various medical problems lead to BP problems
